Alsace is a wine-growing region with AOC status in eastern France. He belongs to white wines from the grape varieties Riesling, Pinot Blanc, Gewürztraminer and Muscat. The greatest wines are made single-variety.

Viticulture in Alsace was learned from the Celts as early as the pre-Roman times. Under Roman rule it experienced a heyday, which is based on the invasion of the Teutons in the 5th century.
Viticulture only experienced a new general rise under the influence of the monastic orders from the 12th century.
